They Jumped the Shark

When something or someone goes over board, loses their relevance, reached a peak, goes downhill, strays off track, does something ridiculous, loses creativity and so on, you may hear "They Jumped the Shark."

The term was attributed to a scene in the long running television show Happy Days. Fonzie, outfitted in his trademark leather jacket, jumped over a (confined) shark while water skiing to prove his bravery. Fonzie in leather jacket. A shark. Water Ski. None of these elements make sense together. Of course Fonzie in his leather jacket. And a Shark in the water.

But what writer scratched his or her head and said,"Gee we've covered everything possible. Wouldn't it be great to like put Fonzie and a shark together- you know two tough guys?" The show had reached an all time low when something so off the wall is a story line.

This blog is to call out authors, television writers, athletes, businesses, products, politicians, entertainers, anyone, or anything that has jumped the shark. Lost their way. Hit a wall. We are here to steer you back on track. Or at least talk about your foible.
